Small Animal Supplies

Small animal supplies may vary according to the species for which they are designed. At the same time, plenty are intended for general use. Examples of more specific products include specially formulated medicines. A more general item would be a plastic ladder.

Sometimes, the differences between small animal supplies may not be readily apparent. For that reason, it is important to learn all you can about a particular species. For instance, if the grid of a cage continues to the bottom floor (as opposed to just opening over a pan) it is unideal for a rat. Generally, the practice of walking around the bedding material will keep it fresher and safer for the rat. If the bedding is located below a grid, this stirring up does not happen and can encourage a variety of painful skin conditions in the animal.

Small animal supplies should only be purchased with the animal's needs taken into consideration. Also, these needs should not be assumed. Some would think that because they are purchasing a small animal, it does not require a lot of space. However, active species may need just as big of a living space as larger pets do in order to thrive. This is generally a matter of how active the animal is naturally.
